A bundled feature now needs a usage plan
Starting August 3, 2026, Notion applies usage allowances to selected AI features on Business and Enterprise plans. The allowance is measured in both a rolling six-hour window and a monthly window. When a user reaches a limit, affected features can pause until usage refreshes, unless the workspace allows additional Notion credits.
This is a significant billing change even when the base subscription price does not move. Teams that treated AI as effectively unlimited now need a way to forecast demand.
Not every AI feature is counted the same way
Notion lists personal Agent chat, image generation, page translation and Skills among the features affected by the allowance. AI Meeting Notes and certain custom-agent or worker experiences follow different rules. That distinction matters because a workspace may see little disruption in one department and repeated limits in another.
Admins should avoid a blanket conclusion based on the loudest user. First identify which features are driving the allowance and whether that work is essential, experimental or easily moved to a cheaper tool.
Rolling windows create a scheduling problem
A six-hour rolling window does not reset at a fixed time. Capacity gradually returns as older activity falls outside the window. That can be less disruptive than waiting for midnight, but it is harder to explain to a team during a deadline.
Heavy users should batch related work, keep context in the same thread and use lower-cost models for simple tasks where the product allows it. Those habits reduce both waiting and credit spend.
Set credit permissions before anyone hits the wall
Additional credits are off by default until an admin enables them. That is a useful protection. Decide who can continue beyond the included allowance, set a monthly budget and review the usage dashboard by person.
Automatic access for everyone may feel generous, but it turns a predictable per-seat plan into an open-ended AI bill. A small group of approved power users is a safer starting point.

Treat the new allowance as a reason to measure Notion AI by workflow. Keep included use for everyday tasks, grant paid credits to roles with deadline-sensitive work and review the first full billing cycle before expanding access. The base plan is no longer the complete cost story.
