AI usage is now part of seat planning
Figma includes a monthly AI-credit allotment with seats, but the amount depends on the plan and seat type. Full seats currently receive 3,000 credits on Professional, 3,500 on Organization and 4,250 on Enterprise. That makes AI capacity part of the licence decision rather than a separate experimental add-on.
The risk is that a team upgrades seats to obtain credits without checking whether those users also need the design permissions attached to the seat.
Credits can be pooled, purchased and spent differently
Teams can add an ongoing subscription pool or enable pay-as-you-go usage. Seat credits are used before additional pooled credits, and purchased credits reset monthly rather than rolling over. Figma also notes that feature consumption rates may change as models and features evolve.
A monthly pool is easier to forecast than unrestricted overage, but unused capacity becomes waste. The correct tier should be based on observed usage, not a launch-month estimate.
Set individual limits before rollout
Figma has been rolling out controls that let admins limit how many paid AI credits each person can use. This is valuable because design teams often contain a small number of heavy AI users and a much larger group that uses the tools occasionally.
Start with conservative limits, then increase them for people who can connect the credits to an active project. A warning without a limit is not a budget control.
Do not confuse generation with delivery
AI can produce prototypes, copy, images and iterations quickly, but teams still need design review, accessibility checks and production decisions. Track whether AI credits reduce time to an approved deliverable, not how many generations were created.
A cheap prompt that creates ten unusable directions is more expensive than a costly prompt that removes a full review cycle.
